CHICAGO — Four people were shot Sunday including a woman in her 60s wounded in an afternoon shooting on the far South Side.

Around 2:35 p.m., a 66-year-old woman was walking up her steps when she noticed a man kneeling on the 13100 block of South Forrestville Avenue. When the man stood up she noticed a handgun, which he began to fire. As the woman turned to run away she was grazed on the top of her head with a bullet, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a police spokeswoman.

The woman was transported to Roseland Hospital, where her condition stabilized, Cooper said.

About an hour later and just blocks away, two people were shot in the 13200 block of Prairie Avenue. A 43-year-old man was shot in his abdomen and a 23-year-old woman was shot in her left arm. Both were taken to Christ in good condition after the shooting, which occurred at 3:32 p.m., Cooper said.

In other incidents, a 55-year-old man was found shot in West Englewood Sunday morning, authorities said.

Around 8 a.m., police found the man in the 6500 block of South Damen unresponsive with gunshot wounds in his chest, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The man was first discovered by family members in his home, Zala said. Once police arrived, he was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Detectives are investigating the shooting, but the man's wounds appeared self-inflicted, Zala said.

At least 44 people have been shot since the start of the holiday weekend Thursday night.
