WEST TOWN — The patio behind a West Town apartment building collapsed into a sinkhole early Friday morning, according to police.
No one was injured when the ground-level concrete patio fell into a 20-foot long by 20-foot wide sinkhole, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.
The hole was approximately 10 feet deep.
Police said the collapse occurred about 1 a.m. Friday in the 1400 block of West Chicago Avenue.
Two apartment buildings were evacuated after the sinkhole formed.
Firefighters had to evacuate three people from the coach house that was separated from the main apartment building by the patio, according to an ABC7 report, as the patio was the only entrance in and out of the building.
