CHICAGO — A Southwest Side man died Monday evening after he was shot in Bridgeport Sunday evening.

David Hernandez, 25, was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m. Monday at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 5:35 p.m. Sunday, Hernandez was standing on the sidewalk in the 900 block of West 32nd Place when a blue sedan pulled up and a gunman stepped out of the car, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The gunman opened fire, hitting Hernandez multiple times, including in the head. The gunman then got back into the car and drove off, police said.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related and said Hernandez, of the 3300 block of South Oakley Avenue, was a documented gang member.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Tuesday morning.
