UPTOWN — A new 12-foot aluminum sculpture was recently installed in the heart of Uptown's entertainment district as part of the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit.

The sculpture, "Two in the Hand" by artist Michael Young, was placed at the intersection of Broadway, Lawrence and Racine Friday on a triangular pedestrian island outside the Riviera Theatre, where it will sit for a year.

The Chicago Sculpture Exhibit has expanded from eight sculptures in just Lincoln Park to this year including 27 works of art throughout the North Side and Northwest Side, according to Uptown United.

“This program is more exciting every year,” said Vi Daley, founder of the program. “For the first time, areas including Uptown, Jefferson Park and Rogers Park are taking part in this show.“

Uptown's economic development organization, Uptown United, said large-scale sculptures beautify streetscapes and "bring positive attention to the area" that's good for economic development while giving residents easy access to art.

The sculpture is sponsored by Uptown United and Crew Bar and Grill, 4804 N. Broadway.
