CHICAGO — A Forest Park man was fatally shot on Memorial Day on the city's West Side.
Monte Tillman, 33, of the 1100 block of Thomas Avenue, died Monday evening after he was shot in South Austin, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Tillman was walking in the 5200 block of West Lake Street about 3:15 p.m. Monday when a man walked up, pulled out a gun and shot him, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.
The gunman then fled. Tillman was taken to Stroger Hospital where authorities said his condition initially stabilized, but he was pronounced dead there at 4:26 p.m. Monday, the medical examiner's office said.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Tuesday morning.
