CHICAGO — A man tried to sexually assault a 19-year-old woman riding the Blue Line in the West Loop Tuesday, police said.

The attack happened about 12:18 a.m. in the 900 block of West Van Buren Street.

The woman had been riding a Blue Line train that originated at the Lake Street transfer station, police said. When she got off the train, the man tried to sexually assault her, but she was able to fend him off and get away.

Police said the suspect was a black man in his late teens or early 20s. He's about 5-foot-5 or 5-foot-6 and weighs 160-170 pounds. He has black hair and was wearing a black T-shirt with a white-and-red logo, dark pants and shoes, and a dark backpack.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call 312-747-8380.
