UPTOWN — A family-owned restaurant operated by three brothers has closed for good in Uptown and a catering company is taking its place.

It wasn't clear as of Tuesday why Cousins closed. Owner Juan Rios and his two brothers Carlos and Pedro could not be reached for comment. But there's a sign on the door at 1463 W. Leland Ave. indicating that Brix Catering & Events has moved in.

The catering company's owners were also not reachable for comment Tuesday.

The company's Facebook page bills Brix as "a dynamic team of classically trained chefs with our very own in-house certified sommelier."

The page says the company does classic catering, formal dinner parties, wine tastings, social and corporate events and more — and that a guest chef series and underground pop-up dinners would soon be in the mix.

Cousins, before it closed, had been serving Mexican-, American- and Italian-inspired dishes for three years.

The three Rios brothers took the orders, manned the kitchen and served customers — which was a lot of work for the brothers and was one factor in Cousins' two-week hiatus in February. The restaurant reopened with slimmed down hours and a smaller menu before closing this month.

It was named for the real cousins in the Rios family, the three brothers' children.

"We were talking about what to name this place one day when we were all sitting around watching them play," Juan Rios explained to DNAinfo in February. "It's for them."
