ALBANY PARK — The mayor known for his impatience is telling drivers in his security detail to "slow down."
Responding to TV reports that found his own security cars caught speeding or running red lights 20 times since 2012, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Wednesday that he was telling his drivers, "Follow the law. Nobody's above the law. Slow down. Full stop."
On Wednesday, WLS-TV Channel 7 reporter Ben Bradley said the cars had picked up parking tickets, too, to the point where they were eligible for the boot.
"They'll look into it," Emanuel said.
The mayor has previously called red-light and speeding cameras a safety issue and says they act as a "deterrent."
The mayor did not say if the tickets would be paid and dismissed other questions on the topic at a news conference at the CTA Brown Line Kimball station touting new security cameras on trains.
