CHICAGO — A man was hospitalized in critical condition after he was shocked by a downed power line Monday afternoon in the Chatham neighborhood, police said.

About 4:35 p.m., a semi-truck traveling northbound in the 7900 block of South King Drive hit a utility pole, causing it to fall into an alley, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago police spokesman.

Power lines fell onto an unoccupied SUV in the alley and a 63-year-old man touched the SUV and suffered an electric shock, Sullivan said.

The man was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but his condition has since stabilized.

No tickets were issued for the crash as of early Tuesday morning, police said.
