BACK OF THE YARDS — Police from the Chicago Police Department's Deering District will conduct a special roadside safety check from 8 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday in the 5300 block of South Ashland Avenue.

During that time, officers "will slow down traffic, stop cars at regular intervals and watch for drivers who show signs of alcohol impairment and other violations," according to a police news alert.

Authorities will also be on the lookout for speeders and people not wearing seat belts.

A similar effort earlier this month in the Ogden District netted eight DUI arrests and dozens of other violations, police said.
