CHICAGO — A 26-year-old West Englewood man has been charged in the death of a toddler who was found badly burned Thursday.

Vernon Henry, of the 6600 block of South Paulina Street, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, police found 20-month-old Adonta McCoy in the 6900 block of South Cornell Avenue, authorities said. The boy was severely burned with trauma to his body.

He was taken in critical condition to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:38 p.m.

Police said they believe Henry was responsible for the boy's injuries. Henry was arrested and is slated to appear in bond court Sunday.
