UPTOWN — As Uptown prepares to celebrate the Asian Lunar New Year with a parade on Saturday, officials are reminding residents of various parking restrictions in place during the morning and afternoon.

The parade is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Saturday outside the Hip Sing Association, 1121 W. Argyle St., and will include floats, a marching band, martial arts teams, dragon and lion dancers and firecrackers. The procession will head east down Argyle, north along Sheridan Road, west up Ainslie Avenue and then back north on Broadway toward Argyle. The office of Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) said the parade would last about an hour.

Both Osterman and Uptown United, Uptown's economic development organization, sent emails to constituents this week warning them about parking restrictions during the celebration.

According to Osterman and Uptown United: Parking will be prohibited on Argyle Street from Broadway to Sheridan Road from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; on Ainslie Street from Broadway to Sheridan from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; on Broadway between Argyle and Gunnison Street between 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and on the west side of Sheridan from Argyle to Ainslie between 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed.

The Chicago Transit Authority's No. 36 Broadway and No. 151 Sheridan buses will also be rerouted from 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m., according to Uptown United. The CTA said southbound No. 151 buses would skip over the parade by taking Foster Avenue to Marine Drive before getting back onto Sheridan via Lawrence Avenue. Northbound buses won't be affected.

Broadway buses headed both northbound and southbound will skip Broadway from Lawrence to Foster via Clark Street, according to the CTA.
