UPTOWN — NBC's "Chicago PD" is coming to Uptown Wednesday to film scenes for the Chicago cop drama at a local grocery store, Dalia Food Market.
The show centers on a Chicago Police Department intelligence unit headed by Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), an effective lawman with a shady past. NBC describes the character as "a man not against crossing legal and ethical lines to ensure the safety and security of the city he loves."
Dalia owner Mohammed Alamawi said a location manager for NBC reached out to him in the first week of January about filming for an episode of "Chicago PD" at his store, which sits under 'L' tracks at the southeast corner of Broadway and Leland.
Mohammed said he agreed right away, because: "first, it's good money they're paying."
"And second, to bring [the show] to the neighborhood and see customers excited," said Alamawi, who declined to say how much money he got for the arrangement.
The filming will last about five hours, and the store will be closed to customers from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Alamawi said. The footage is for an episode scheduled to air April 2, according to Alamawi.
"Chicago PD" is a spinoff of "Chicago Fire," a drama focused on the Chicago Fire Department and filmed entirely in the Windy City.
The creator of the "Law & Order" franchise, Dick Wolf, executive produces the show, which was also created and developed by Michael Brandt, Derek Haas and Matt Olmstead.
The show debuted on Jan. 8 and airs on NBC every Wednesday at 9 p.m. after "Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit."
