CHICAGO — Two years after it opened, Portage Park's Regulus Coffee House is going out of business.

In a Christmas Eve Facebook post, owner Brent Bogseth said the cafe at 6032 W. Irving Park Road will close on Dec. 31, though the company will continue to sell its roasted coffee online and at community events.

"The brand will still be floating around, the brick and mortar part will be closed," Bogseth said Thursday.

Bogseth attributed the closure to a drop in foot traffic and other circumstances in a neighborhood where he saw a need for a community coffee shop.

"I knew what I was getting myself into," Bogseth said about opening the shop in December 2011. "It was all about arts and entertainment and coffee and culture."

Regulus brand coffee will continue to be roasted in the city and will be sold on its website and at local events, including the Patio Theater, Bogseth said.

"Regulus Coffee House Company is still very alive. These bricks are just holding us back right now," Bogseth wrote on Facebook. "We'll regroup, work the community events (if you kids are game for it) and see what happens moving forward."
