UPTOWN — A teenager riding a bike was shot in Uptown on Friday, police said.

The 17-year-old boy was riding a bike westbound in the 1100 block of West Wilson Avenue when a  gunman emerged from a vehicle and fired shots at the teen, striking him in his left knee, according to police.

It happened at 7:17 p.m., just west of the Wilson Red Line station, police said.

The gunman fled on foot, and the teen he shot was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, police said.

As of Monday, police said they were still looking for the shooter.

Ald. James Cappleman (46th) posted a message on Uptown Update's Facebook page the day of the shooting saying he was with a group of people at Broadway and Wilson "and heard gunfire."

The alderman said he gave police the descriptions of three men he saw flee south on Broadway and turn east down Sunnyside Avenue after the shooting, and said police later questioned them on Windsor Avenue.

Authorities did not have details about what led to the shooting.
