LITTLE VILLAGE — One man is in the hospital and another is in custody after a shooting outside a bar on the city's Southwest Side Wednesday night, authorities said.

About 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, a 29-year-old man was standing outside Lorraine's Lounge nightclub at 2600 West 24th Street when he was approached by a gunman, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The gunman walked up to the man and shot him in the groin and abdomen, Greer said. The 29-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

No one answered the door at the nightclub Thursday afternoon. Walter Webber, a 54-year old cook who lives around the corner from Lorraine's, said the gang activity on the street has only gotten worse since he moved onto the block.

"It's terrible," he said. "It's sad, it's really sad. I've lived on this block four and half years and instead of gettin' better, it's gettin' worse."

Police said early Thursday they had a person of interest in custody but no charges had been filed. Police did not have details on what may have led to the shooting.
