BRONZEVILLE — Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old woman that authorities have ruled a homicide.

Police found the woman unresponsive about 7:12 p.m. Monday inside her apartment in the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The woman was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as April Dixon. An autopsy released Tuesday said Dixon died from being repeatedly stabbed.

She was pronounced dead inside her home at 8:31 p.m., authorities said.

In other overnight violence, a 40-year-old man was hospitalized after a shooting in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The man was walking through an alley in the 3000 block of West Walnut Street about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday when another man approached him from behind and tried to rob him.

Without looking behind him, the 40-year-old man began running, and when he reached the end of the alley, he realized he had been shot in the leg, Gaines said.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in good condition.

Elsewhere, police said three other men were wounded in shootings on the city's South and West sides since Monday afternoon.
