ROGERS PARK — People taking Cheryl Cavey's hip-hop dance class at the Glenwood Dance Studio opening this weekend have to follow only one rule: No twerking.

"We don't twerk in my class," said instructor Cheryl Cavey of the dance move made infamous by pop star Miley Cyrus' controversial performance at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. "I have to tell my students not to twerk."

The studio, at 7017 N. Glenwood Ave., opens Saturday as a reincarnation of Northside Dance Theater, which closed in the same space earlier this summer.

Cavey, 25, and a few other Northside refugees decided to open their own nonprofit studio to keep the community dancing.

"I came to Northside and everybody was just kind and accepting," said Annaleah Tubbin, 28. "We all just want to dance together."

Classes at the new studio — including ballet, jazz modern, tap and Cavey's hip-hop ("The only serious place you'll twerk is LA," she said) — are scheduled for weekday nights, except Friday, and from noon to 4 p.m. on the weekends.

A grand opening — where you can "dance all day for free" — is planned from 12-4 p.m. Saturday.

Just remember: No twerking.
