CHICAGO — Brown Line riders should expect longer travel times late at night and on the weekends starting Sunday as the CTA begins work to remake a two-mile stretch of "slow zones" on the line.

The CTA says the work between Armitage and Merchandise Mart will eliminate 70 percent of the line's "slow zones."

Construction on the $71.2 million project will begin with replacing the steel structure of the "L" before shifting to the track itself beginning in 2014.

While crews are doing the work, trains traveling in both directions will operate on a single track. Travel times will increase and boarding locations may change, the agency said.
