Teen Killed in McKinley Park One of Three Shot Overnight

MCKINLEY PARK — Three teenagers were shot in a three-hour span overnight, including a 17-year-old shot dead after midnight in McKinley Park.

The 17-year-old was shot and killed at the intersection of 36th Street and Marshfield Avenue. Officers in the area heard shots and found the boy shot in his head. The shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m., said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The teen was identified as Omar Castel. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:22 a.m. Friday, according the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Around 11:55 p.m., another 17-year-old was shot in the 1500 block of West Superior in West Town. The boy was shot in his arm and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Greer said.

Around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the 8600 block of South Carpenter Avenue. The boy said he was walking when he heard shots and felt pain in his leg and realized he'd been shot.

He was then taken to the hospital by a relative. The boy is in good condition at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Greer said.
