STREETERVILLE — "David Bowie is" coming to Chicago.

Don't let those quotation marks get your hopes up about a sighting of the androgynous star: That's the title of the 66-year-old musician and artist's touring retrospective exhibit scheduled to land at the Museum of Contemporary Art in September.

"David Bowie is" includes more than 300 objects associated with Bowie's 50-year career in music, film and art. Organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the exhibition will make its only U.S. stop in Chicago before kicking off the remainder of its international tour.

Artifacts include archival photos, original costumes, handwritten lyrics and rare performance video pulled for the first time from the David Bowie archive, according to a release from the MCA.

The multimedia installation opens in September 2014 and will be in Chicago through January 2015.
