CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was dead and another man wounded after a shooting in the South Deering neighborhood on Sunday.

The shooting occurred at about 2:50 Sunday afternoon in the 10500 block of South Oglesby Avenue, police said. The boy was initially thought to be 18, but the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Joseph Brewer Jr., 16, who lived near where he was shot.

The boy was found on the ground, while a 28-year-old man was shot in his hand in a nearby car, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

He was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m.

No one was in custody for the shooting.
