WEST LOOP — Parking restrictions aimed at stopping suburban "daytrippers" from parking in the West Loop for free and then heading downtown went into effect Wednesday.
Signs prohibiting parking from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on weekdays are being installed along roughly 14 separate blocks, including stretches of Aberdeen, Elizabeth, Laflin, Monroe, Morgan, Peoria, Sangamon, Throop and Tilden. The 100 blocks of North and South Racine, as well as the 200 and 300 blocks of South Loomis, are also affected.

The idea behind the signs is to discourage “daytrippers” from taking advantage of the unrestricted free parking in the area, according to the West Loop Community Organization, which collaborated on the effort with the city.
The parking restrictions will continue for six months.
