
SOUTH LAWNDALE — Repairs of the South Kedzie Avenue bridge will force a detour for motorists and cyclists that will last past Thanksgiving.
The $5 million project is the second phase of a renovation that began in March and closed portions of the southbound lanes. This time around, the bridge will close completely.
The bridge, built in 1909 and later reconstructed in 1969, will get a new concrete roadway deck, repaired girders, floor beams, lateral bracing and new sidewalks with fiberglass panels, transportation officials said.
The work begins Wednesday and is expected to wrap up Nov. 30. Here’s a look at the detour routes, courtesy of CDOT:
Southbound Detour
Trucks: Kedzie Avenue south to 31th Street, west on 31st Street to Pulaski Road, south on Pulaski Road to 47th Street, east on 47th Street to Kedzie Avenue
Cars: Kedzie Avenue south to 31st Street, east on 31st Street to California Avenue, south on California Avenue to Pershing Road, west on Pershing Road to Kedzie Avenue.
