CHICAGO — One person was killed in an early-morning accident on the Eisenhower Expressway, fire officials said, and alcohol is suspected to be a factor.

The accident happened in the inbound lanes near Kostner Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. One woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as 29-year-old Arquilla Jones of the 200 block of East St. Charles Road in Carol Stream.

Two cars were involved, said Illinois State Trooper Elizabeth Nanai. Investigators determined a black 2012 Mazda 6 was "traveling at a high rate of speed" when it hit a black 2010 Nissan Altima stopped on the shoulder, Nanai said. She did not know why it was parked on the shoulder.

Jones, the driver of the Nissan, died, and the passenger was listed in critical condition. Nanai said the driver and passenger of the Mazda are in stable condition. Initial reports said two people were transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and another was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Traffic was stopped at Kostner for most of Saturday morning, but all lanes are now open, Nanai said.
