WICKER PARK — A North Community Bank branch in Wicker Park was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money by a man described as a white male wearing a "construction safety vest" Friday afternoon, the FBI said.
Shakespeare District police, detectives and an FBI agent were on the scene at 1555 N. Damen Ave. shortly after the robbery occurred around 3:30 p.m.
After walking into the bank and making a verbal demand for money, the robber, who did not "display or imply a weapon," fled by foot with an undisclosed amount of money, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.
No injuries were reported. A North Community Bank employee who answered the phone at the 1555 N. Damen Ave. branch said that the bank would be closed for the remainder of the afternoon and customers are encouraged to go to the nearest branch at Division Street and Damen Avenues.
