Man Dies in Police Custody

CHICAGO — A 44-year-old man died in police custody Saturday.

John Hubbard, of the 34100 block of South Rhodes Avenue, was found unresponsive in a police interview room at the Homan Square station, 3340 W. Fillmore St., in North Lawndale at about 1:25 p.m., said Officer Joshua Purkiss, a police spokesman.

Hubbard was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office had no information about the cause of death.

Police had no information about why Hubbard was in custody.
