Shooting Victim Dies While Driving to Hospital, Blocking Eisenhower Expy.
AUSTIN — A Forest Park man died after he was shot early Monday and tried to drive himself to a hospital only to make it as far as the expressway entrance ramp.
The man, identified as 28-year-old Gregory Bady by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was shot sometime after 4:30 a.m. at a gas station on West Jackson Boulevard and South Laramie Avenue, according to police spokesman Officer Robert Perez.
Bady tried to drive himself to a nearby hospital, but police found him pulled over on an exit ramp on the Eisenhower Expressway, Perez said. The incident backed up traffic for miles.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Family members later told NBC5 that Bady was the third relative they'd lost to gun violence in the past 10 years. Bady was shot following a traffic dispute, according to NBC5.
At the gas station where the shooting happened, an attendant said she heard gun shots but couldn't see anything from where she was standing. She said she did not call police.
"I heard some sounds," the woman said. "That's all I know."
