Hotel Intercontinental Dome Lights: Observation Deck gets a Colorful Update

STREETERVILLE—Chicago's nighttime skyline now has a new star.

When the city was illuminated on Saturday, Nov. 17 for the annual Holiday Lights Festival, the yellow dome perched atop the Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Avenue was lit up in myriad hues for its official debut.

"We're adding a lighting concept to the top of the building that's going to allow us to put different lightings for shows and events like breast cancer month and Bears games," Dan Egan, a representative for the hotel's management company, told DNAinfo.com Chicago in late October.

Construction on the lighting installation began in early October.

The dome now contains an open-air deck — not open to the public — that is fitted with cameras aimed at Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue.
