Chicago Public Schools said it has no plans to end early, despite claims by the Chicago Teachers Union.

Rauner's Press Office responded: "This kind of rhetoric has no place in American public discourse."

"No teacher ever wants to go on strike," Lewis said Monday. "But this board leaves us no choice."

"The countdown has started" for a teacher strike, union officials said Saturday.

Students are still expected to attend school until June 21, officials said — unless teachers strike.

Karen Lewis earned another three-year term as president when no one ran against her.

The school district wants to block the union from future strikes.
