Get into the holiday spirit as Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) flips the switch on Lincoln Square's ceremonial Christmas tree at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Giddings Plaza, 4731 N. Lincoln Ave.

As a nod to the neighborhood's German roots, the festivities will include a performance by the  Deutsch-Amerikanischer Kinderchor (German-American Children's Chorus), which was founded more than 70 years ago.

Donations for the Lincoln Square Friendship Center food pantry will also be collected at the tree lighting. Desired items include canned fruits and vegetables, coffee and tea, baking ingredients, rice and beans, hearty soups and stews, toiletries, peanut butter, oatmeal and canned meat.
