The Swedish community in Andersonville will celebrate St. Lucia Day on Friday with a solemn ceremony. A procession led by singing young women wearing white gowns, red sashes and crowns of candles will start at the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark St., and return to the museum at 5 p.m. for more holiday-themed programming.

St. Lucia Day, celebrated in Sweden since 1764, is a festival of lights that commemorates the martyrdom of a Sicilian woman named Lucy who Roman authorities sentenced to death in the year 310 when she refused to denounce her Christian views, the museum said.
