The Stand Up for Uptown Rally and March is planned in support of Joseph Stockton, Graeme Stewart, and Lyman Trumbull elementary schools. Stockton would close and be taken over by Mary E. Courtenay Elementary School, while Stewart and Trumbull would close outright and send students to other area schools, under a plan by the Chicago Public Schools.

The event is being organized by activists with Northside Action for Justice, North Side Save Our Schools and Uptown Uprising.

The rally, which includes a press conference at noon, also takes aim at the affordable housing issue in Uptown and the policies of Ald. James Cappleman (46th). Cappleman critics argue he is trying to push poor people and social service agencies out of Uptown.
