The festival of Sankta Lucia is celebrated in Sweden and Swedish communities around the world every December, a tradition of faith, hope and light.

As a nod to its Scandinavian roots, North Park University's annual Sankta Lucia pageant and smorgasbord will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at 5137 N. Spaulding Ave.

The pageant will take place in Anderson Chapel. A procession of female singers will carry lit candles symbolizing the light Sankta Lucia brought in a time of need. A group of young men, called "star boys," wearing cone-shaped hats decorated with golden stars, will follow the women.

A traditional Swedish buffet will be served in Hamming Hall after the pageant.

Tickets for the pageant are $5 per adult or $10 per family. Tickets for the pageant and smorgasbord are $15 per adult, $10 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets for smorgasbord must be bought in advance.
