Albany Park has been hit with two "100-year" floods in the past five years, prompting the North River Commission to organize an Environmental Issues Meeting & Resources Fair, 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, Hamming Hall, North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Ave.

The event encompasses two components. The Resource Fair will take place 6-7 p.m. and 8:30-9 p.m., with participants to include Friends of the Park, Center for Neighborhood Technology, Save the Ash Tree Coalition, Spirited Gardener and Peterson Garden Project.

An environmental issues presentation and discussion, 7-8:30 p.m., will feature speakers David St. Pierre, executive director of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD), and Tom Laporte from the Chicago Water Department. Topics include an update on the Foster Avenue Diversion Tunnel, how homeowners can protect themselves from sewer backups, and ways to implement rain barrels and rain gardens to mitigate flooding.
