CHATHAM — Jewel-Osco will recognize Black History Month with its 15th annual “Taste of Black History” event, which honors contributions and achievements of the black community.

The grocer is partnering with more than 20 minority-owned businesses in a four-day celebration beginning Feb. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at Jewel-Osco, 1655 E. 95th St. The events will feature live jazz music and in-store sampling stations sponsored by popular black vendors.

Chicago Bears player Henry Melton and former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun will kick off the celebration by making an appearance Feb. 6 at the Chatham Jewel store, 87 W. 87th St.

Melton will be on hand from 5-6:30 p.m. to sign autographs and will be joined Braun, who will explain to  customers the health and benefits of organic foods and sustainability. Braun is owner of Ambassador Organics.
