Think beyond the classic Chicago dog on Saturday. Gaper's Block is hosting a Hot Dog Cookoff in Schuba's parking lot, 3159 N. Southport Ave., from 2-7 p.m., where chefs from local restaurants will put their own twist on the classic dog.
Kuma's, Fat Rice, Harmony Grill, The Haute and The Dog and ManBQue will be participating, and a panel of expert hot dog judges, including Doug Sohn from Hot Doug's, will judge. There will also be a People's Choice award.
Tickets cost $20, and proceeds go to Reach Out and Read Illinois. Cash bar.
