In light of the recent same-sex marriage movement and the fight over civil rights, the Chicago Public Library has teamed up with the Human Rights Watch Chicago to present a free film screening of "The New Black," a documentary that examines how the black community is grappling with the issue of gay rights.

The free event begins at 6 p.m. in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St.

The screening will be followed by a Q & A session with the film's director, Yoruba Richen, and civil rights activist Maxim Thorne.
