The Seed of Hope Food Pantry at New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church, 754 E. 77th St., routinely hands out food to needy families and individuals from 9-11 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month.

On Saturday, in addition to giving away 500 food baskets, the church will also give away 432 turkeys.

To receive a food basket, citizens must present some form of identification with a current address, such as an Illinois driver’s license or state identification.

“We do require some form of identification but we will not turn anyone away if they don’t have it,” said Carlene Scales Lilly, director of the Seed of Hope Food Pantry. “We need the identification for our client database."

Eligible residents live between 75th and 83rd streets, King Drive and Stony Island.
