Dragon Boat Races for Literacy

Proceeds from the annual Dragon Boat Races for Literacy — a colorful and competitive fundraising race in the Chicago River — are sent to to various local groups promoting literacy. Teams of up to 20 members consist of paddlers, a steersman or "sweep," a flag puller, and a drummer whose steady drumbeat keeps paddlers in sync.
