Cantate Chicago, an a cappella group conducted by Benjamin Rivera, presents “Beginnings,” a concert featuring sublime unaccompanied works by modern and contemporary masters. Each work captures the spirit of a different beginning: creation, day, a wedding, birth, spring, and a coronation. The ensemble will perform Grammy-Award winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre’s i thank You God for most this amazing day, and well-loved Pulitzer Prize winner Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning, featuring mezzo-soprano Julie DeBoer. Other works by Pärt, Rogne, Tavener, and Vaughan Williams will be performed. There are two opportunities to be a part of this experience: Friday, March 15 at 8 pm at First United Methodist, 516 Church St, Evanston and on Saturday, March 16 at 2:30 pm at St. Josaphat Parish, 2311 N Southport, Chicago. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.cantatechicago.org or at the door.
