Queer Contra Dance Chicago will hold its monthly dance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the community hall at St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Logan Square, 2649 N. Francisco Ave.

Contra dance is a form of folk dance, similar to square dancing, but with lines of dancers rather than squares. The caller will be John Legge with music by the $8,000 String Band.

Admission to Queer Contra is a sliding scale of $0 to $10 payable at the door. No advance planning or experience is needed and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Potluck snack and beverages are encouraged.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • 6:30 to 7 p.m. — Lessons for newcomers
  • 7 to 9 p.m. — Contra dance for newcomers and experienced dancers, with a snack break about 8 p.m.
  • 9 to 9:30 p.m. — Potluck refreshments
