CHINATOWN — A young man and woman were the victims of an armed carjacking in Chinatown this week that was caught on camera.
The 22-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were sitting in their car around 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 2100 block of South China Place when an SUV pulled up, according to police.
Four men got out of the SUV with guns drawn and demanded the man and woman get out of the car, a 2016 white Honda Accord, before stealing it and driving off, police said.
The incident was caught on security camera.
About 22 seconds into the video, a gray Kia SUV drives by the victims' car and pulls over across the street. At 1:11 in the video, the Kia drives away, only to return at 1:45. The Kia pulls up next to the victims' car and four men jump out and surround the victim's car. They open the car doors and the passengers get out.
The driver of the car, the 22-year-old man, stands among the robbers before they get into the car. He then walks to the passenger side of the car and talks to the man inside, who pushes him away before both cars flee southbound on China Place, according to the video.
The driver puts his arm around the woman and the two walk across the street before running away.
