LAKEVIEW — Less than three months after the opening of Lakeview's first Target on Clark and Belmont, the retail chain is set to open another small-format store in the neighborhood, this time at 3300 N. Ashland Ave.

The store's soft opening is at 7 a.m. Wednesday, and its grand opening is at 8 a.m. Sunday and will feature reusable bag giveaways for the first 1,000 guests.

The new 31,000-square-foot Target is the eighth small-format store in Chicago, and it features products tailored to the community.

"There's a lot of thought that goes into partnering with the neighborhood," store team leader Michael Moore said. "There's so much housing, there are so many young families and young professionals here, so it made sense to have a great infant section. It's all about looking at the area we live in and catering our assortments to that."

In addition to four isles of infant products and an extensive toy section, other areas of emphasis for the new Target include sporting goods, as there's an XSport Fitness right across the street, health and beauty products and home decor ideal for condominiums and apartments.

The store also carries select apparel and accessories for kids, women and men, a small market section focused on grab-and-go foods, home improvement products and more.

It also features a Starbucks, CVS Pharmacy, Target Mobile and order pickup.

Moore said Lakeview will benefit from both of its Target locations because each small-format store emphasizes different assortments based on the needs of the surrounding area.

Two more small-format stores are opening this week in Oak Park and Skokie. Between the three new stores, about 220 jobs will be created.

Target at 3300 N. Ashland Ave. is open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.
