UPTOWN — If you scare easy, steer clear of Chase Park this month.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, the park district building at 4701 N. Ashland Ave. will be transformed into a summer camp-themed haunted house featuring clowns and rooms modeled after classic horror films "Friday the 13th" and "The Ring."

"You come to camp, but it's scary instead of fun," said Park Supervisor Katie Peon, adding the month-long event should be "pretty scary."

Camp Scare Away will overrun the park with "bloodthirsty killers, demonic ghouls, and grotesque fiends the likes of which no camper can escape," according to its website.

Campers can also expect a maze weaving through park district locker rooms featuring a creepy infirmary, a claustrophobia hall and some hidden scares, Peon said.

"Our elaborate maze of evil cabins is sure to send you shrieking to your doom as you beg for the nightmare to stop," according to its website.

The park district partnered with Fury Theatre to create the "professional scare haunted house," she said.

Those who survive the first day of camp, can enjoy part one of the 90s horror classic "Stephen King's It." Each Saturday a different classic horror film will be screened at the park, she said.

After the Saturday opening, the haunted house will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays throughout October. It will also be open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays, according to the website.

It will be open on Halloween. It will not be open Oct. 8, according to the website.

The camp grounds were designed for campers older than ten, but will also have a free "kid friendly 'no scare' walk thru' devoid of "jump scares" from 5 - 6 p.m. on Oct. 14, 18 and 21, Peon said.

Tickets for the haunted house are available online for $11 and available here. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance for $12. The funds will go towards renovating the park district.
