Barricaded Man Surrenders To Police After Fatal Shooting, Police Say

CHICAGO — A man barricaded himself in a building after fatally shooting another man in North Lawndale early Friday, police said.

At 2:42 a.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of South Kildare Avenue and found the 34-year-old victim on a front porch, police said. The man was unresponsive.

A witness told officers the victim got into a fight with another man, who shot the 34-year-old and then barricaded himself in the building, police said. The gunman man eventually turned himself into police and charges were pending.

The 34-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:28 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was identified as Gregory Petty, of the 900 block of North Hamlin, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. An autopsy showed Petty died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide.
