Downtown Robbers Threw Man Into Lake After Beating Him, Police Say

CHICAGO — A group of robbers held up a man Downtown and then threw him into Lake Michigan early Wednesday, police said.

At 12:01 a.m., the man was walking on a path in the 1200 block of South Lake Shore Drive near the Shedd Aquarium when several people walked up to him and started beating him, police said. The thieves took the man's backpack and cellphone.

The thieves then threw the man into the lake and ran off, police said.

The man got out of the water and was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was not available but he was listed as "stable," police said.

No one was in custody.
