Portage Park Burglars Swiping Tools, Bikes From Garages, Police Say

CHICAGO — Burglars have broken into the garages of at least six homes in the southern part of the Portage Park neighborhood since Sept. 6, according to a police alert issued Monday.

In each case, someone entered through an unlocked door, or forced open an overhead or side door. They made off with items including bicycles, tools and GPS devices, police said.

The burglaries were reported at the following times and locations:

• Between 7:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Sept. 6 in the 5100 block of West Melrose Street

• At 10 a.m. Sept. 8 in the 5700 block of West Waveland Avenue

• Between 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 6:40 p.m. Sept. 14 in the 4900 block of West Waveland Avenue

• Between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 16 in the 5100 block of West Byron Street

• Between 10:45 a.m. Friday an 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the 5800 block of West Berenice Avenue

• At 6:19 a.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of West Byron Street
