'Alive Inside' Dementia Doc Screening At Norwood Crossing Tuesday

CHICAGO — The retirement center Norwood Crossing, 6016 N. Nina Ave., will host a free screening Tuesday of the 2014 documentary “Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory” followed by an interactive workshop on dementia care, according to the center's staff.

A favorite at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, the film "chronicles the astonishing experience of individuals who have been revitalized through the simple experience of listening to music," which has "healing power can triumph where prescription medicine falls short," according to a description by Norwood Crossing.

The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Nancy Flowers, a dementia care specialist at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care, organizers said.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday. Light refreshments will be provided.
