CHICAGO — A Chicago activist is climbing a mountain in Wales to raise money for an Auburn Gresham community center.

The activist, Ja'Mal Green, plans to one day open the Majostee Allstars Youth Center to serve South Side residents. He's hoping the climb will raise awareness of the center and help him raise money to rehab the building.

Green will start climbing Mount Snowdon on Saturday. The mountain — among the tallest in the British Isles — is 3,560 feet tall. Green will tour four countries on his trip, as well.

Green hopes the center at 7919 S. Ashland Ave. can one day provide day care and training for residents. He always wants it to be a place where people can be creative at concerts and open mic nights.

Green has raised $60,000 for the organization on GoFundMe. He's collecting donations for the Majostee Allstars on YouCaring.

Ultimately, Green hopes to raise $1 million to rehab every floor of the center.
